San Diego fish report for
Oct 1st
Offshore Report
Yellowfin from
the Islands South to the Ten Ten, north to the 181 and out to
the butterfly. The Yellowfin are everywhere the Bluefin and the
Bigeye are in isolated spots but are out there as well. WATCH
THE WEATHER! This has been a diffucult year to predict weather.
if it blows don't go. Stay home and wait until it's nice, These
fish like it nice. Just look for birds, Kelp patties, Porpoise
Schools or anything other that salt water. Drop the Cedar plugs
in and Bingo. There are still some good Yellows on patties
taking live bait.
Inshore
report
Looks like some great
fishing in store for the month! La Jolla has been
heating up with more and more good counts of yellows in and along the kelp. The Bass in La Jolla have all
been concentrated higher in the kelp now, using baits such as
small surface irons and weightless plastics should boost your
catch totals and also produce some mind-blowing surface action.
The kelp up and down the coast has been showing great signs of
life with a large variety of fish being caught, making for some
local fun while beating the summer crowds to the south. The
Coronado islands are still fishing good for Bonito and some
great Yellowtail. The Rock pile south of the Coronados has
been looking good for yellows and some Bonito. Head down to the
rock pile for some pretty consistent fishing. Make sure to check
the weather before you go! When planning to fish the Islands just look for days
when there is less chloraphil around. This will equate to much
cleaner and bluer water. The tuna, Dorado and Yellowtail are
just about everywhere under kelps and on the high spots. These
fish are close enough for all you private boaters so go get em!This
is a great time to get out of The office. There is some
great fishing around and this is the time to go. From all of us
here at the shop with wish you and safe and Happy fishing.
San Diego bay
Some
Big Halibut are in the bay now!!
San Diego
bay water temps are down now a little which is great for the
fishery. The south bay has water temps at about 73 and holding
steady. Cooler weather coming now will bring the
temps down whichtriggers all the fish in the bay to start
feeding.. The back bay has now started to fish very good with
cooler water being the reason. The front of the bay is even
better with water temps from 68 to 74°. The bass fishing
in the bay has been good over the last month. Some
Barracuda and and Bonito are being caught in
the front of the bay where the current is strongest. Yellowfin
croaker, Corvina and Bonefish have picked up the feeding with
the cooler temps i'm catching
quite a few in the
shallow water in the back where the sun can warm the water
during the day. Zuniga jetty on both the north
and south side has been fishing very good for calico bass and
sand bass. Over the last two weeks I have seen the
occasional breaking Bonito around the bridge in the deeper
portions of the channel. The deep water areas around the
mouth has been producing some great big Halibut as well as a
mixed bag of big bass.
San Diego beaches
The
crabs have hatched and the
Corbina are here!
The water temps are now up and seem to be
stabilizing from 68 to 70 degrees. The
perch fishing is great!! The Halibut are thinner now and
slowing in numbers. Look for Halibut in
the deep holes and structure areas around the beaches. The
crabs are all over the beaches now with Torrey Pines being the
most consistent. The Corbina are in to eat the crabs and so are
the other croaker species. If you want to know how and where to
go give us a call or come on in to the shop we have many shop
employees that have fished all the local beaches and know
the secret’s to catching these fish. Surf Perch are now coming
in closer and closer all the time.
Many reports are coming in about good numbers of Leopards around
so don't leave the larger rod
behind.
